November is National Family Caregiver Month. The commitment and dedication caregivers show throughout the year to their loved ones is remarkable, and it is always valuable to stop and appreciate the good things in our lives. Take a moment this month to acknowledge the caregivers in your life.

Caregiving offers a challenge and brings great rewards. The stress of caregiving can tax our emotional well-being, our physical health, our careers, and overall quality of life. The joy of caregiving is always tempered with the sacrifices entailed by such a sacred task,

As caregivers it is so crucial to acknowledge your importance, your value, and to believe your health and happiness must be a high priority.  November is #GratitudeMonth and represents the time we share our gratitude for the blessings in our lives. We can remember to honor those we care for by caring for ourselves.

This is a good time to reach out to family members, to strengthen our bonds and firm up the foundation for our care.  It’s also a great time to connect with our community and services that may be able to provide respite care.  It can be so easy to get lost in the caregiving role.

Remember the hobbies and activities you enjoy.  Call a friend, stay connected to the world outside of caregiving. Take breaks regularly, even if it’s just getting outside for a few minutes each day with a cup of coffee. Take time for yourself.

National Family Caregiver Month reminds us check in with yourself, take a step back and make sure that you haven’t forgotten to care for yourself. It’s also the time to lend a hand to those caregivers in your life who could use your support.
