South Shore Elder Services is delighted to announce the first employee Wellness Week that was held this year. The vision was to acknowledge employees and the invaluable work that is done each day. In an effort to support employees in their work, South Shore Elder Services hosted a Wellness Week to promote health and wellness.

During the Wellness Week, each day was designated towards a wellness topic including: Hydration, Energize, Breathe, Release, and Focus. A wellness table was set up with brochures and resources regarding each topic. For example, on the Hydration day, a bottle of water and cups were provided to employees to discuss the importance of hydration.

On the Energize day, the topic of nutrition and exercise were discussed as key components to health promoting behaviors. Nutritious snacks including granola, yogurt, fruit and vegetable platters were offered as well as a variety of recipes to promote healthful eating.

With the Breathe day, the importance of breathing was discussed. In addition, a yoga instructor was present who provided chair yoga and breathing techniques to offer ways to further develop these skills.

On the Release day, information was provided regarding the topic of stress management. Wrist bands were given to employees with words encouraging them to “Breathe” and “I will not stress today”.

On the last day of the Wellness Week, the Focus Day, information was provided on mindfulness and meditation. Local resources were displayed and offered regarding each of the five wellness topics.

South Shore Elder Services would like to thank the donator of a Fitbit Heart Rate and Fitness Band. The Fitbit was raffled to promote the concept of health and fitness throughout the year. In addition, South Shore Elder Services would like to thank the generous donator of a one month gift certificate for personal training and nutrition counseling. Lastly, South Shore Elder Services would like to thank the generous donator of a package of local yoga classes.

South Shore Elder Services greatly appreciates employees having the opportunity to develop their wellness goals through the services that these companies offered. It was an indelible part of the wellness Week and continuing with the Wellness initiative.

As a result of the overwhelming response, South Shore Elder Services will be continuing with the Wellness Initiative throughout the year. A Wellness Library has been created with Wellness books and local resources for employees. Wellness classes, including local gym and yoga studios, are listed for employees to go to after work or on a lunch break. In addition, the agency vending machines will be offering nutritious food and beverages to ensure healthy snacks are accessible.

South Shore Elder Services wishes to thank everyone involved for their generous assistance with making the Wellness Week possible. We are aware that without you this would not have been possible. Thank you.

We wish you a healthy 2017.
