Let’s face it. Elder Abuse is not something we like to think about or talk about, but older people face similar difficult situations that younger people do: isolation, neglect, or abuse are equal opportunity stresses and don't end because someone advances in age.  In fact, seniors are often more vulnerable and encounter additional stress and risk due to various issues common with advanced age; such as physical limitations, frailty, a loss of a spouse, or, perhaps a cognitive decline.

South Shore Elder Services can provide support to various situations, including those where a former independent elder had found themselves no longer able to manage their basic needs and had subsequently put themselves at risk.

Another common situation includes assistance to families where there may be an overwhelmed caregiver, who being unable to cope with the stress, may have inadvertently abused or neglected their loved one.

If you have concerns about the safety or well-being of someone within the senior community, we encourage you to call us. Our Protective Services team is specially trained to assist elders and their families with sensitive situations that may contain physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, or self-neglect.  A trained specialist will discuss the situation with you and work with you to determine the appropriate steps to be taken.

Each Protective Service Advocate takes a non-judgmental approach.  We look to protect the well-being of the elder with the ultimate respect for his/her right to make decisions for him/herself. Our goal is to make resources available to elders and their families, which will allow the elder to remain safely in the community.
